Bumicert anatomy
Use this template during Lesson 06 — Bumicerts on ATProto to draft a community impact certificate. Print one copy per claim.
A Bumicert is just three structured fields. Fill in each side below. The fields are the same shape you would write into the org.gainforest.bumicert ATProto lexicon when you publish on a real PDS — but the practice of writing them is what matters.

1. Identity — who made this impact?
Name the community, organisation, or named person whose work this certificate represents. Include a DID (or wallet) if you have one — but the name and the relationship matter more than the identifier.
Name: ___________________________________________________
ATProto handle / DID: ___________________________________________________
Relationship to the land or knowledge involved:
2. Claim — what impact was achieved?
One sentence. The claim should be specific, time-bounded, and verifiable. Avoid adjectives. Replace “significant restoration” with “3.4 ha planted in March 2026 with species X, Y, Z.”
3. Evidence — how do we know?
List the data, photos, recordings, witness attestations that back this claim. For each, note where it is hosted, who can revoke it, and what its boundary statement says.
| Evidence item | Hosted at | Boundary statement |
|---|---|---|
Carried context (the part that prevents the oil framing)
A Bumicert without these is just an impact claim. With them, it’s a piece of soil-tending.
Boundary statement (or reference to the boundary worksheet)
Withdrawal pathway (who can pull this back? on what notice?)
Reviewer (named human + named backup, both signed)

Backup: ___________________________________________________
Closing checklist
- All three components filled in.
- Claim is one sentence and contains no adjectives.
- Every evidence item has a known hosting location and a known boundary statement.
- A named human reviewer has signed.
- A withdrawal pathway is documented.
A Bumicert is only as strong as the protocols it carries with it. The certificate is the public face. The protocols are the soil.
